Tetraheptylammonium Bromide for the Preparation of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Matrix Membrane Electrodes

Novel potentiometric application for the determination of pantoprazole sodium and itopride hydrochloride in their pure and combined dosage form Ragab MT, et al. Talanta, 2015, 138, 28-35.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) master membrane sensors were developed by using tetraheptylammonium bromide (THB) as an anion exchanger and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (2-NPOE) as a plasticiser for the determination of the anionic drug pantoprazole sodium times half hydrate (PAN).
The PVC master membrane sensors were prepared as follows:
In a glass petri dish (5 cm diameter), 0.4 mL of 2-NPOE was thoroughly mixed with 190 mg of PVC and 10 mg of THB . The mixture was dissolved in 10mL THF. The petri dish was then covered with Whatman No. 3 filter paper and left overnight at room temperature to allow the solvent to evaporate. A primary film with a thickness of 0.1 mm was obtained.

Tetraheptylammonium Bromide for the Development of Lipid-based Nanocarriers

Hydrophobic ion pairing of a GLP-1 analogue for incorporating into lipid nanocarriers designed for oral delivery Ruba Ismail R, et al. European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, 2020, 152, 10-17.

The cationic surfactant Tetraheptylammonium bromide (THA) can form hydrophobic ion pairing (HIP) with exenatide. This Exenatide-THA HIP complex can be incorporated into lipid-based nanocarriers to enhance their lipophilicity.
Preparation of Exenatide-THA HIP:
Prepare an aqueous solution of exenatide acetate at a concentration of 2 mg/ml. Adjust the pH to 8.0 using 0.1 M NaOH. Dissolve increasing amounts of THA in 1 ml of a deionized water: methanol mixture. Add the THA solution dropwise to 1 ml of exenatide solution under gentle shaking. The exenatide to THA ratio should be 1:8. Collect the HIP by centrifugation at 13,400 rpm for 5 minutes. Wash the HIP three times with water.
Development of Lipid-Based Nanocarriers:
Dissolve 2 mg of HIP in 4 mg of propylene glycol (PG). Stir the mixture for 2 minutes and homogenize at 1500 rpm for 10 minutes at room temperature. Sequentially add 41 mg of Capmul MCM (oil), 40 mg of Kolliphor RH (surfactant), and 15 mg of Captex 355 (oil), homogenizing (1500 rpm) after each addition.
